A Lot Happens in a Month
Sunday, May 3, 2009
Quick update
Hello Dreamers - apologies for the delays - quite a lot has been happening the last month and a half - will try to compress into a few lines:
- all eaves and eaves brackets have been installed
- three out of four walls have been undercoated
- wall insulation has been installed
- noggins for the verandah have been installed
- ducted vaccuming system is almost fully installed
- quads have been put on most windows and doors
Currently the plasterer is installing the ceiling batons in readiness for the plaster to be installed this coming Wednesday. Matt from MJC Plastering and Painting has been working hard in getting it installed - including placing extra beams in the ceiling to be able to cater for the weight of the corninces. Hopefully the main plaster will be installed by this Saturday so we should have defined rooms inside! Getting close now.
Plan now is for installation of the floorboards by Steve starting the 17th of May - by which time hopefully all the plaster and fancy work is completed.
I'll upload the latest round of photos before Wednesday so you can get an idea on the progress being made.
Thanks for your patience,
CJ

All Walls and even to Lockup Stage!
Hi Dreamers - we've had a full on couple of weeks - two weekends back Jan, Stan and I managed to complete all walls with weatherboards, and today Jan and Stan completed the house to lockup, by installing both rear doors, which gets us over the line to lockup! The past few days Jan and Stan patiently installed the doors to the laundry as well as the front door, while I tried to fill up a 6 cubic metre skip with the rubbish that has been laying around.
Following is the evidence :) (as Karen tell's me that I am writing a novel).....

Here is Stan Jan and I finishing off the final board....

Here I am demonstrating how I can now use a hammer with my left hand

This is the Last Board Jig

Here is the Laundry door - unfortunately I can't get far enough away to get the whole thing in one shot...

Here Uncle Stan is chiselling away the lock in readiness for the debut closing of the front door

Viola - masterpiece. And who's that little kid peering through the window pane....

It's MITSY :)

Here's the bloody big skip, nearly full...

And fresh from the camera this evening - the double door shot - fantastic - Thanks Jan and Stan
Next thing to happen - Electrician is coming over Thursday to go through the house and point out bits and pieces, hopefully in readiness for starting next week. Speak soon. CJ

One Full Wall, Maybe even Two!
This weekend Jan, Stan and I worked on the street side for two
days after rearranging certain areas where the wood was
warping and bowing - finally at 5.30 on Sunday we got to
the complete top - unreal!
Then on Monday Jan and Stan worked on the front section of the
house - I returned home from work to find the front of the house completed
up to the the top as well!! Amazing stuff after having to battle the elements
over the past few weeks, seemingly making little ground to all of a sudden
have it all happen at once.
This coming weekend we are endeavouring to get the final
two walls completed - hopefully we will be toasting a four
walled weatherboard house on Sunday...... fingers crossed.
You may notice that the house appears to be two-tone - yes your eyes are
right - I didnt get to paint all the boards before they went up, so the light boards
are the ones that I did paint - the grey ones weren't so lucky.

It's been a while... Sorry for the delay
Hello to all those of you who are interested in the progress on our house - the feedback so far has been excellent.
Since I've returned to work, I've been having to travel an hour each way, doubled up with working on the house full time on the weekends so I haven't been able to update in some time. First some updates as to the progress.
Roof has been completed. We have decided on the floor board provider - a mate of my brother in law - Jamie - can get us a really good deal on Jarrah floorboards - so Steve the floorboard dude is coming around to measure up this Saturday.
Kaz has gone and spent up big on whitegoods and can now provide the dimensions of said appliances to the kitchen maker - Impala Kitchens - in readiness for that to start construction.
Jan and Stan have been fantastic, working through the most disgustingly hot days we have ever experienced (including sharing with me the hottest day in the history of Melbourne, trying to put insulation paper up and then weatherboards while the temperature reached 46.4 degrees celsius) in order to get where we are - 2/3 to 3/4 of all the weatherboards now up as you can see below.
My dad Russ has come down to go around the completed boards with the electric sander and has started puttying up the gaps.
Craig our plumber has been in with his bobcat to dig out the sewerage pipes to the back of the house. Heaps of progress.
This weekend Jan, Stan and I are hoping to get all the boards on - in time for our sparky Erin to get started with roughing in the cables. I have to get my butt moving on the plaster - more photos to come soon.
